Ground Broken for Reconciliation Sculpture

State and city officials attended the groundbreaking at the site of a Reconciliation sculpture in Richmond, VA on December 13.
State Senator Henry Marsh, Secretary of Administration Viola Baskerville, and four members of Richmond City Council attended the ground breaking ceremony for a Reconciliation sculpture near the city's infamous former slave market. "The eyes of the world are upon us," said Senator Marsh, noting next year's 400th anniversary of the Jamestown settlement.
The 13-foot bronze sculpture by Liverpool artist Stephen Broadbent is part of a Reconciliation Triangle project linking Liverpool, UK, the Republic of Benin in West Africa, and Richmond. Copies of the sculpture are already in place in Liverpool and Benin. The Richmond unveiling is scheduled for March 30, 2007.
